Flying Unicorn Gives Back - BLOG HOP!

Hi everyone and welcome to my blog :)))

If you have just joined in...here is the order of the blog hop from start to finish:

JAX
MELINDA ( That's ME!)

Every year in the month of November, Flying Unicorn sponsors "Flying Unicorn Gives Back." This year, we've chosen a nationally recognized charity, Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.

For each project that is uploaded to our forum gallery, Flying Unicorn donates $1.00 to a maximum of $1,000 and. we've always reached our goal. With your help this year we will again.! Flying Unicorn also donates 5% of all sales during the month of November to the charity. Finally, do not forget to mark your calendars for our Silent Auction November 8th - November 16th .

We have set up the Flying Unicorn

page on the Best Friends site where monetary donations can be made as well to help us reach this years goal of $3000.00 in charitable donations.

Best Friends' mission of No More Homeless Pets tries to place dogs and cats who
are considered "unadoptable" into good homes, and to reduce the number of
unwanted pets through effective spay and neuter programs. Since its inception,
the number of dogs and cats being destroyed in shelters has fallen to
approximately 5 million a year. There has been much progress, but there is still
much more to do. Best Friends made national headlines with their intensive efforts in rescuing so many animals in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina..

In honour of Best Friends, and the November Kit of the Month -Heart's Twilight - I would like to share with you the extra special project I made using the Kit of the month :

This is our gorgeous dog, Mimi....she came into our family as a pup and we have had her just over a year. She is so well behaved, loves kids, gentle and is a good guard dog as well...couldn't imagine life without her.

"Part of the Family"

Went for the soft creamy tones of this kit.  I have added a few things from my own stash like the Prima Vine and the stamping but basically most of it comes from what was sent to me :)

In the kit came some gorgeous Lavendar Gold Magicals from Lindy's Stamp Gang.  My first time at trying any of their products and I can honestly say I had fun and loved it!.  I basically added some of the powder to water and treated it like watercolour paint.  Love the gold shine that it has to it.

I also re-coloured in some of the cream flowers using the Shimmerz in the kit and the Magicals. They are so much fun to experiment with.

Heart's Twilight is now available with an amazing and fun off the page creation- take a look:

Cute Shimmerz Tags

Well this is my last project for my GD spot at Shimmerz.  I have thoroughly enjoyed creating these projects and sharing them with you all. A big thank you to Stacey, Lydell and the team for having me for the month of September :))

So I decided to create a few cute tags.

I have used the following Shimmerz Products to create these super fun tags.

Colouringz – Pink Stilettoes
Vibez – Rudy Red Nose
Vibez – Abominable Blue
Blingz – Under the Sea
Shimmerz – Frostys Got the Blues

 "Happy Birthday to You"

"Special Birthday Wishes"

Here is what the background looks like before I added on the embellishments. Instead of using ink on my circle stamp, I painted on some Shimmerz – Frostys Got the Blues.

Shimmer, Shimmer, Shimmerz!

Hi there :)

Not sure why this didn't post while I was away but here is my 3rd project I created for my Guest Designer spot at Shimmerz last month.  Totally different colours for me but I loved how this turned out.  The day I did this layout I just went with the flow, just played around and let loose!

"Brighter"

I have used the following Shimmerz Products to create this layout.

 Coloringz – No Yoking
Coloringz – Valentino
Shimmerz – Sugar Plum
Shimmerz – Pumpkin

In the background of this layout I firstly punched out some circles and just glued them down.  Using the Shimmerz – Sugar Plum I dipped my finger into the little jar and traced around the outside of the circles. Once this was dry I added some stamping to enhance the circles. Oh I am having fun with some stamping these days!

My next step was masking using some modelling paste.  Once that was dry I used a fine paint brush and went around the masked area with some Coloringz – No Yoking. Then I went over it with some Shimmerz – Pumpkin. I noticed once I added the Shimmerz, the modelling paste started to crackle...what a cool effect!

Then lastly, after all my embellishments were added I dripped some Shimmerz – Sugar Plum on them.  Love how the Shimmerz adhered to the metal embellishments.

Scrap Around the World - October Challenge

Hi everyone,

This month 2Crafty are sponsors and Guest Designers for the challenge site Scrap Around the World.
Before I left to have our baby I decided to get in and do this one.

Here is the challenge:

Feel free to interpret the mood board in any way you like,
using one image, several of them, all of them or even just
one aspect of an image, using ANY COLOURS!   Please
do let us know HOW YOU WERE INSPIRED!!

For example:- You could use fresh, clean colours like white, pale blue,
yellow, pink, mint green & gold.  Patterns such as florals/leafy foliage
together with images of birds, flowers, chevrons & polka-dots! There
are elements of vintage mixed in with modern; doilies, airy lace designs,
pretty bows & clashing colours, shapes & prints.  Circles, checks,
stripes - this board is all about eclectic combinations!

There's an air of nostalgia mixed in with the uber-modern images too.
This could prompt you to scrap about different generations, life as it
was then & how it is now, or simply outdoor memories inspired by the
botanical prints.  This board evokes images of purity, beauty &
femininity, with a touch of romance & homely peace & comfort.

OPTIONAL SKETCH

To be eligible for judging:-

In your blog post:-

1)  Please share our mood board image.
{you may show the sketch image but ONLY IF YOU USE IT}

 2)  Please mention  that you are playing along at
Scrap Around The World & LINK BACK to the current challenge.

{Please link to YOUR BLOG POST NOT your entire blog & please
turn off word-verification if you would like some of our Design Team
members to comment on your entry}.

3)  Please check our RULES OF PLAY HERE before entering.

Here is my layout:

"Adorable"

Had so much fun creating this layout with 2Crafty Chipboard.  I followed the sketch but instead of 2 photos I used some chipboard
in place of 1 of the photos. I was inspired by the blues & pinks in the
mood board as well as the flowers, doilies, bows, typewriter,
 chevron arrows in the cushion.

And a quick snapshot of my background and chipboard before the photo and embellishments were added. Sorry for the quality it was take very late one night.

Hope you get a chance to play along :)
Till next time
